"Mr. Counterfeit"

"Mr Counterfeit" opens up with the voice of Art II himself, saying goodnight to his son as he prepares to head out onto the streets of Chicago to make a counterfeit drop— a simple recreation of an event that Little Art had witnessed countless times growing up. The ensuing urban journey frames Little Art's childhood experiences as the son of a counterfeiter and convict. Because my book focused on his father—and because I had concerns about Little Art’s privacy as minor—I tried to keep the kid out of my book as much as I could. As the kid makes it plain enough in this song, he was in it whether he wanted to be or not.
